Nasser bin Hamad Directs To Investigate Repeated Deaths At Public Walkways

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports has directed the different institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain to study the reasons behind the repeated deaths of athletes in different public locations, and to work on the preparation of the suitable plans to combat this phenomenon.

HH Shaikh Nasser affirmed that preserving the lives of citizens and residents in the Kingdom of Bahrain is a top priority, adding that the repetition of sudden deaths among people during their exercise routine has become a matter that requires to be looked into and to work on specialised programmes to curb such incidents in cooperation with the different institutions in the Kingdom.

His Highness called upon the concerned bodies to cooperate with the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports to study the causes that have led to the significant increase of these cases in recent times, at the same time, HH Shaikh Nasser expressed the need to find solutions that reduce death cases during exercise.

In response for the increasing deaths reported in public walkways, parks and pitches, His Highness has directed the concerned parties to urgently study the nature of these sites, taking into consideration their design and surrounding environment.

On his part, HE Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, commented: “HH Shaikh Nasser is keen on ensuring that the utmost safety conditions and standards are applied at sites where citizens and residents exercise and perform sports. Bahrain has recently witnessed a number of deaths among sports practitioners in designated walkways. HH Shaikh Nasser has directed to investigate these incidents to stand on the causes behind them and to ensure that all technical requirements and safety procedures are in place.”

“The Supreme Council for Youth and Sports will coordinate with the concerned bodies to investigate this matter and prepare a comprehensive report that includes the technical, administrative and safety procedures followed at public walkways, as well as implementing awareness programmes on how to handle such cases,” Shaikh Salman stated, adding that Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, Assistant Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, to follow up and coordinate with the related bodies in investigating the matter.
