His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee chaired the first GSA meeting at Al Wadi Palace.
The meeting was attended by His Highness Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice President of the General Sports Authority Board Members, and Board Members HE Ayman bin Tawfiq Almoayyed, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, Mr. Nebras Mohammed Ali Taleb, Ms. Hedia Mohammed Fathallah Mohammed Fathallah, Dr Thomas James and HE Dr Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, CEO of the General Sports Authority.
HH Shaikh Khalid welcomed the attendees and congratulated them on the Royal confidence entrusted to them by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
He wished the authority all the success in achieving HM the King’s aspirations for more progress in Bahraini sports through the formulation of policies and systems, which would achieve the highest levels of development and progress of the sports system in the Kingdom.
He expressed appreciation to the care and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the sports sector through the Government Action Plan, which contributes to providing the infrastructure and the appropriate climate that supports and motivates athletes to provide the best levels to achieve more.
HH Shaikh Khalid noted to the endless support provided by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs, to this vital sector, appreciating His Highness’s distinguished efforts to accomplish HM the King’s directives through the implementation of developmental strategies that have achieved a qualitative leap for Bahraini sports and pushed it to advanced levels.
During the meeting, His Highness stated: “We look forward, through the General Sports Authority, to continuing the efforts to achieve a future vision to improve the sports system, in a way that attains more accomplishments in the Bahraini sports sector.”
He praised the efforts exerted by the Authority during this period to support the participation of national teams, as well as to oversee the national campaign to support the first national football squad, launched by His Highness, in the remaining matches of the second round of the double qualifiers.
He also called upon all to intensify efforts and coordination with the relevant sports and governmental authorities, in a manner that ensures the achievement of more successes for Bahraini sports.
He discussed with the attendees the topics included on the meeting’s agenda, which focused on the GSA assumption of organisational tasks and competencies in the sports sector, the implementation of sports plans and projects, and the start of supervising activities and organising work in sports clubs and bodies.
He instructed to direct support to sports cadres and facilitate all procedures, and overcome difficulties facing them, with the aim of pushing them towards accomplishing more achievements for Bahraini sports.
The Board agreed to approve the official identity of the General Sports Authority. It agreed to register “Winners Academy” as the first football club to bear the status of a commercial company.
