Reigning Bahrain Premier League and King’s Cup champions Riffa SC has added a new trophy to their stacked case: the 2019 Super Cup championship. The team was able to go through the biggest test so far of the season against Manama Club and come out victorious after penalties.
It is the first official trophy lifted by Riffa SC after the start of the groundbreaking partnership with BRAVE Combat federation and KHK MMA, which is set to empower football in Bahrain and give worldwide attention to the biggest football club in the Kingdom.
The Super Cup is the curtain-raiser for the start of the domestic season, as the league champion takes on the King’s Cup champion in one game to find out the first winner. In this edition, however, the runner-up for the Bahrain Premier League, Manama Club, had to be called upon since Riffa SC won the double, lifting the two biggest trophies of Bahrain.
The final score, before penalties, was 1-1, as Komail Alaswad canceled out Manama Club’s first goal, which was also the first goal conceded by the solid Riffa SC defense in the season so far.
In the penalty shootout, goalkeeper Abdulkareem Fardan was the hero, saving the first two penalties taken by Manama Club, and leaving goalscorer Alaswad to score the winning penalty and start off the celebrations, a trend that looks like it will continue throughout the new season.
