Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) Chairman Arif Rahimi has paid tribute to Team Bahrain for its success story in Four F1 events in four months and stressed that BIC looks to the future with sustainability at the forefront.
“We have witnessed yet another amazing spectacle this evening and I congratulate Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes on their amazing victory,” he said following the conclusion of the 2021 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday evening. The spectacle of F1 under lights was witnessed by 4,500 vaccinated and COVID-19 recovered fans.
“It was a particular delight to be able to see our fans in the stands brimming with excitement throughout the race. I’m deeply proud of what Team Bahrain has achieved over the last four months in hosting no less than four F1 events in the last four months. We are only able to deliver this with the work of so many colleagues across Government, coordinating with the dedicated team here at BIC to deliver these major events, in what are challenging global circumstances.
“Most notably, the guidance and support we have received from the Ministry of Health and the National Taskforce for Combatting the Coronavirus has enabled us to run these events in a safe manner, whilst ensuring we could welcome fans and offer them an experience they will never forget.
“Our thoughts now turn to the future, as we continue to improve on everything that we do. We are especially excited to commence our solar energy project in the coming weeks, the first phase of which will provide enough energy to power our whole F1 race weekend, with future ambitions to have 100% of our energy usage coming from solar. This is just a part of our plan to build a sustainable future.
“Finally, I offer my thanks to Formula 1, the FIA, The Bahrain Motor Federation, the marshals, volunteers, our colleagues across Ministries, and of course the team at BIC.”
BIC Chief Executive, Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa said that the last four months have been an experience that he will never forget.
“Global constraints of the pandemic, combined with the operational challenges of four F1 events in four months meant that, as a collective, Team Bahrain had to work smarter than ever before,” he said.
“Thinking differently and creatively, acting with more energy than ever, together with a relentless pursuit for excellence, has enabled us to deliver the magic of F1. I am deeply proud of what we have been able to achieve. With that, I pay a particular tribute to the team at BIC. I believe that our mantra of Pride, Passion and Performance has never been more visible than in the last few weeks. To the fans who came to BIC over the weekend and the many millions watching at home, we thank you for sharing our passion for the sport.”
