Should magazines be loaded with photos?

by PowerUp Sports

Many of you flip the pages through your favourite magazine but will local magazines survive? Dr Saqer shares his opinion on what the future looks like.

The magazine, PowerUp, is one of many monthly magazines about sports published around the world. A while back, when I wanted to get my monthly edition of Top Gear magazine I would have to literally go through a lot of trouble! By the time I read it, it is already about two weeks late. But since the iPad revolution, the term “local magazine” does no longer exist. So what about PowerUp, should you read it, look at it, or not bother at all?

CLICKING PICTURES AND MAKING NEWS

I’ve been writing articles in this magazine since the beginning. As I have the personal relationship with the staff, they became my friends, and now wherever they see me they splash me with great photos. Who doesn’t like to have photos right, we are always looking for that action photo for our Instagram! But keeping friendships and the benefits that come with it aside, I have looked into the challenges the PowerUp staff have gone through, and am really amazed on how they tackled them one issue at a time. What I have also seen, is how this magazine is keen into aligning their monthly issues with the society we live in, local and international.

ARCHIVING – A BIG NO NO!

The sad thing about monthly magazines is that each month they add to their archive a new magazine that they have worked very hard for the whole past month. For these reasons, I do not like to have information that many people worked hard on getting and publishing simply being archived away. I go through each page because I feel it is my duty to do so. Even my article, in some funny way, I try to give it the attention that it deserves by actually reading it once or twice. I try to make sure the information is correct, and hope that a number of you read them and benefit. If I can make a positive change in one person’s life, it means that I have achieved my goals for that past month.

LOOKING BEYOND THE MOMENT

It is fun to write articles of course and to read, but what’s also more fun is to look at photos. There are local monthly magazines, not published online, that we actually do purchase, that is full of photos of social events and no words at all. Yes, people do love them, but I feel they are more of just snooping around other people’s lives and not actually spending quality time learning something new. I only learned that my friend is so social that he goes to many different weddings and embassies’ celebrations!

My advice to you all is to have something from everything. The people behind this magazine work hard on bringing to you all the sports news from the region and outside so that you can PowerUp your life! You need to invest in your life, and to be well-rounded, you have to learn something that you do not necessarily find interest in it. I, for example, have no interest at all in art, but sometimes I do drag myself to museums to know more about that past life. Why? Well, because there are a number of good people who worked tirelessly on this specific subject.

For now, this month article is about the importance of reading, because with photos, or skimming through articles, you won’t be able to know something new every day of your life. Cheers, and see you next month!
