Manama, April 15th, 2018 – Friday the 13th was a lucky day for everyone involved in the KIA Charity Bike Ride. Together with PowerUp magazine, Team Bahrain Merida organized yet another bike ride in Bahrain. This time we went to the oldest city in Bahrain – Muharraq and ride some roads public has no chance of riding due to heavy traffic. Supported by Ministry of Interior (Traffic Dept.), Sheikh Khalid and Bahrain Cycling Association, Mr. Ibrahim Muttar, Middle East Hospital and TriLife bike shop, we created a save environment for all cyclists to enjoy their 36km ride around Muharraq and Amwaj island.
“On the half way point, by Marassi beach, we created a stopover for participants to refill their water bottles. With support of KIA, we wanted to encourage all new cyclists to take on the challenge and to show that cycling is great sport where you can do your workout while having fun with friends.”
The route was short and flat so cyclists of all abilities were there to take on the challenge. After the ride breakfast was served and raffle conducted. One lucky cyclist won a flat screen TV, and he promised he’ll watch cycling on it, while one lady won our signed team jersey. She happily donated the jersey to Cycling Bees, all girls cycling club that has one villa as team headquarters where girls gather and watch races while cycling on turbo trainers (when weather gets too hot).
Cycling Bees also won the prize for the best dressed team, as they came to the ride wearing traditional Arab women’s face cover. During the event we announced the formation of our Fan Club, and we presented the merchandise package to our first Bahraini fan club member – Ahmed Ebrahim Aldaisi. The profit raised by registration fee from around 200 riders was donated to the Abdulla Ahmed Bin Hindi Charity Foundation.
